Distribution Centre productivity and efficiency have a major impact on your cost to serve and business profitability. Demands on distribution centres continue to increase, improved service levels, additional product ranges to manage, shorter pick and delivery lead times and increased product storage requirements. All adding to the complexity of the daily running of a busy distribution centre. Whilst continuous improvement remains the logistics buzz word, the reality in many cases is that most distribution centres are simply trying to keep up with these demands. Developing operational systems and process, reviewing site configuration to best deliver improved service levels and productivity is challenging. Few operations are afforded sufficient operational headroom, capacity or have available data to keep up with daily demand and carry out analytical reviews of performance and productivity. Not to mention the building and presentation of an array of business cases to secure funding.
A fresh look.
We all know what a fresh pair of eyes can bring to the table, add into that to decades of experience and the privilege of witnessing hundreds of different operations globally and suddenly opportunities can start to be realised. We are experts in the field of DC. performance optimisation. Over the years we have developed a unique set of tools, including our own in house analytical software to help identify, understand and quantify the operational developments required to significantly improve DC performance. Our lead consultants have run some of the largest facilities in Europe and are acknowledged experts in their field, they also have the headroom and support of some of the most advanced analytical tools to support and quantify their findings.
Distribution Centre reviews deliver performance and service level improvements.
We have designed our DC Performance reviews and process to clearly identify the measurable opportunities of the site. We can help you understand in detail:
♦ Operational and process improvements for tasks and activities.
♦ Layout and location improvements to reduce travel times.
♦ DC working capacity and capability for the future.
♦ Operational Standards for revision.
♦ Suitable and available technologies for improving capacity and performance.
♦ Performance Management Process improvement for management teams.
♦ Performance Improvement Plan for the site with measurable cost savings.
♦ Revised KPI’s and performance standards.
Working with you.
At Sigma we work closely with you and your team at all times and when carrying out the DC Performance reviews this is no different. One of the key parts of the review is our Root Cause Analysis (RCA) Modelling Exercise. This is comprised of an operational modelling exercise (encompassing part of all of the distribution centre activities) and a Performance Management Process GAP analysis. This exercise combined with the on-site information gathered ensures we fully understand the opportunities, locations of operational improvements and the measurements required to both validate and track performance improvement. Using a combination of our highly sophisticated in house modelling software and benchmarking techniques we can accurately evaluate current operational performance and confidently present the modelled opportunities.
We combine operational experience with sophisticated modelling software.
Delivering Results.
The DC performance reviews are specifically designed to establish or re-establish a continuous improvement journey for your distribution centre. Dependant upon the Distribution centre, reviews typically takes around 13 weeks from start to finish. This takes into account the initial sign off right through to the presentation of the findings and opportunities, agreement from the operational team and creation of your site performance improvement plans. The reviews are scalable, from the entire distribution centre to individual operational areas e.g. picking operation, allowing you to be in complete control and maximise the benefits.
Our pledge to you.
We are extremely confident in the Distribution Centre Review process and the process for identifying robust operational benefits and cost savings. Our operational experts with decades of “on the floor” experience and access to some of the most advanced modelling tools available can efficiently identify with your team the potential for Improvement. Following which, we are happy to work with your team on any implementation. With all this in place, we are therefore confident to offer our customers a simple pledge. If we are unable to identify operational cost savings and performance improvements, there will be no charge for the review.
